• VanDusen Botanical Gardens

The VanDusen Botanical Gardens sits in the middle of a subdivision in Vancouver. It is 55-acres of plants and flowers from around the world, with trails, a maze and little paths sneaking through nature. The colours were spectacular, bright yellows falling from trees, red rotting flowers turning purple and every shade of green you could imagine skirting every eyeline. All of the images below were taken with my phone, but I am already planning a trip back with my SLR.

  • Kelowna

Camping in Kelowna was picturesque. The weather hovered around thirty degrees and a cool breeze rolled off the water. The fast moving river beside our site drifted in through the waterfalls showcased on the trail across the street. Canadian geese walked, swam and flew just beside us the whole time, while other wildlife kept its distance. This was the perfect way to relax and spend my holiday. The pictures ended up being better than I imagined and I cannot wait to explore more of British Columbia.

  • Hospital Information Access Denied

In early April, CBC (Canadian Broadcast Company) launched an investigation into individual hospitals across Canada. ‘Rate My Hospital’ part of the Fifth Estate includes statistics, letter grades and detailed surveys regarding the hospitals closest to you. In order to access this information CBC asked the Canadian Institute of Health Information – the CIHI receives information directly from the hospitals, which it in turn shares with the public – but when the CIHI went to health officials from provinces across the country they gave a collective “no.” It gets worse. In Nova Scotia, health minister Kevin McNamara approved the release of data only to revoke his approval six days later: “In those six…

  • East vs West Vancouver

This week Vancouver was outrageously beautiful. The mood in the city lightened and everyone was friendly. This was a spectacular Easter weekend, especially seeing both sides of Vancouver. All of the flowers and trees are beginning to bloom adding a pop of colour to the streets and it was so clear that you could see every inch of the city.

  • Lynn Canyon and Wreck Beach

The best part about living in Vancouver is living so close to nature. While some childhood friends were down we spent the day at Lynn Canyon and Wreck Beach. The morning was freezing, it hailed when we were walking up Lynn Canyon, but the fog in the trees was stunning. By the time we reached Wreck Beach the sun was out and skies were blue. The ocean was so still, you could make out every detail in the reflections. This also allowed for a breathtaking sunset.

  • Public Records – Aidan Knight

Turning onto Commercial exposed small groups of youths wearing skinny jeans, large rimmed glasses and plaid, lots of it. Even without the large Rio Theatre sign, it was clear I had arrived at my destination. Nearing the end of his Western Canadian tour, Aidan Knight and his band mates played to a sea of adoring fans that know all too well, the talent and charm of Victoria’s own hometown boy wonder. The darkened theatre was packed. Stragglers shifted through the back doors during opener Leif Vollebekk’s set searching for anything, but found only standing room.  As the red velvet curtains were pulled back and the lights dimmed, everyone went silent.…

  • Prince Edward Island and Hey Rosetta

[slideshow] This weekend was Canada Day long weekend. Since a couple friends from school are from P.E.I, we took a trip to the island. This was my first time on P.E.I and it was incredible. Not only is it stunning, the people are incredible. Really friendly and incredibly kind. We spent the first night in Crapaud. There was a three course meal that we all ate outside as the sun was setting. It was so lovely. Later in the night, we were invited to another house for a swim and hot tub. It has been a while since any of us had done this and we were all excited. Later in the evening…
