Lunenberg and Tall Ships Festival

My friends are very interested in sustainability and community gardens. Three of them work on a garden behind the Dean of Residents for Kings College. When they found a flyer for a mushroom workshop, they were thrilled.
On Sunday they rented a car and trekked out to Lunenberg for the workshop. This was lucky for me, as I had very little interest in the workshop, I hitched a ride and explored Lunenberg for the day.
Seafood on the harbor front, exploring the beautiful architecture (the school was unbelievable) and napping in the park. My day was incredibly relaxing and wonderful.
I had never explored a place by myself before, and all that time to think was wonderful. Not having to answer to anyone or go anywhere you don’t want to was perfection.
This was my first trip to Lunenberg and I hope to go back again someday. The harbor is very tourist-y, although it was the Tall Ship Festival in Halifax so most of the people were there, but the suburb section was lovely. The churches there were stunning.
On Friday my friend called me up after getting off work early and we journeyed to the Tall Ships Festival. This only comes to Halifax every four years so seeing these incredible ships was a must. After walking the harbor we found the food tents.
There was a huge section where local restaurants and wineries had booths, while live cooking demonstrations took place. It was a dream come true for us.We got pulled pork sandwiches from Fid Resto and a bottle of Rose, and watched a chef take black box challenge.
As the day went on they kept announcing a chef from the Food Network, Chuck Hughes. Neither of us knew who he was and almost left, then he appeared. He is a very attractive, very charming French man. A bottle of wine in and we were giggly and loving his presentation of five recipes in forty-five minutes.
It was a lovely weekend, and beautiful weather. Tomorrow I leave for Newfoundland with my roommate for George Street Festival. A really good friend of mine lives there, and I haven’t seen him in months so I’m thrilled.
