Brighton Pier
We had the most gorgeous weather on our day trip to Brighton Pier.
To get from London to Brighton, we grabbed a train from Clapham Junction. The short ride along the bright green fields was lovely, especially in the morning.
Upon leaving the station we immediately headed towards the ocean. Being close to the ocean is one of the reasons I moved to Halifax and Vancouver, there is nothing like the smell of salt water and the cool breeze.
The pebble beach is stunning, and because it was slightly cool, not very crowded. Fun fact: I was looking on the Brighton website and learned there is “apparently around 614,600,000 pebbles on the beach.” I don’t know how they know this but that is pretty fantastic.
Walking along the pier was perfect. On the way down we walked through the arcade, there are lights and sounds everywhere and the games are diverse and unusual.
At the end of the pier is an amusement park with roller coasters, a carousel and other basic park rides. There is even a small section between the rides to sneak to the very end and stare at the ocean from the very end of the dock. This provided a fantastic view of Brighton and the chalk cliffs.
On the way back down the pier we stayed outside and found two guys on sea-dos, which is where I got the above photo. My only warning would be to mind the birds. They are crazy, mean and will steal your food.
