For musicians covering their favourite songs or artists is a right of passage. Most covers allow musicians to indulge their favourite artists of the same style. This is fine for concerts but if you are going to record a cover try something new. Most listeners do not want to hear the same song done by different people, especially when the original is better. We listeners want something new and unexpected to come out of the song. To grasp a new meaning or feeling we were unable to get from the original. Jim Davies (Prodigy and Pitchshifter) took a break from his studio time in Essex to sit down and talk with Rock Pulse about his latest album with Victory Pill. Davies is very relaxed and jokes around with the questions, allowing for a more friendly conversation. Ollie Taylor is a 23-year-old musician from London, England who currently performs with the band The October Game. Taylor records his solo music on the side and currently has three songs free to download on his Soundcloud page. Each song evokes a different feeling and shows off Taylors range vocally and musically. ‘Anni’ is a soft and sweet song. The shaker and the piano give the song a serene quality as his voice floats above. The Killer Elite – Wright
When I sat down to read The Killer Elite I was excited. I am really interested in the war in Afghanistan and Iraq and this piece showed perfectly how the soldiers react under extreme circumstances. These are barely men, many of whom are barely educated, trying to fight a war they don’t seem to fully understand. In class, the discussion made these soldiers seem brutish and almost evil, it seemed people did not fully grasp the circumstances these soldiers are forced into.
