The show follows Will McAvoy (Jeff Daniels), a news anchor and managing editor of News Night. McAvoy spent most of his career trying not to offend anyone or take any sides. After offending both Republicans and Democrats at a panel his world is turned upside down. When he returns from vacation, most of his staff has moved to a new show, prompting him to work with new people and an ex girlfriend (Emily Mortimer).
This show has the same brilliant writing Sorkin is known for, as well as a walk and talk within the first fifteen minutes. The cast, mostly coming from stage, are all wonderful, helping to cultivate incredible characters.
In typical Sorkin style, the show opens up the conversation about the state of journalism. It is an incredible behind the scenes look at investigative reporting, as well as what can happen when reporters do their jobs right.
While the premier was a little long, it showed that this will be a great program. For those who do not have HBO, they have given you the opportunity to watch the show via Youtube. The whole first episode is available here.
The Newsroom airs every Sunday at 10 pm on HBO.
