Celeste and Jesse Forever is the new film starring Rashida Jones and Andy Samberg.
The movie follows Celeste and Jesse, best friends, who are getting divorced. This movie is said to be a comedy but based on the trailer looks like it will be heartbreaking.
The two, who married young, begin to lead seperate lives. Celeste begins to move up in the world as her business takes off. While Jesse stays stagnent, not knowing what he wants in life. Celeste decides this is not the best path for the two and breaks it off.
As Jesse moves on, Celeste begins a downward spiral. What seemed like a good decision has now changed. She has to figure out what she wants while trying to be happy for her best friend.
Written by Jones and Will McCormack and directed by Lee Toland Krieger, the film also stars Elijah Wood, Emma Roberts and Chris Messina.
The film has not been getting great reviews from critics. A.V. Club‘s Noel Murray says:
While Celeste And Jesse marks Jones as ready to make the leap from TV to film, it also shows that she maybe shouldn’t be her own screenwriter.
While the Hollywood Reporters John DeFore was more optimistic, saying:
Borrows tropes from the rom-com playbook, and has enough laughs to be mistaken for one, but ultimately doesn’t want to be pigeonholed.
It is always interesting to see actors foray into screenwriting. With a great cast it I am intrigued but based on reviews, not expecting too much.
