Humans – Peter Ricq and Robbie Slade – hail from East Vancouver, British Columbia. The duo met back in 2009 and soon discovered that together, their different styles formed a fresh sound that blends lo-fi indie rock with addicting synth and electronic grooves. Turning onto Commercial exposed small groups of youths wearing skinny jeans, large rimmed glasses and plaid, lots of it. Even without the large Rio Theatre sign, it was clear I had arrived at my destination. Nearing the end of his Western Canadian tour, Aidan Knight and his band mates played to a sea of adoring fans that know all too well, the talent and charm of Victoria’s own hometown boy wonder. British Columbia
We finally reached our destination! Waking up in the early morning, watching the fog drift over the water proved British Columbia’s beauty. Our drive was to Whistler which meant we would spend the whole trip driving through the mountains. Our soundtrack: The Civil Wars. Blasting ‘Barton Hollow‘ while the mountains surrounded us was sensational. The powerful vocals and heavy pounding beat encompassed us as the mountains grew. The weight of the world could be on my shoulders but looking back at this moment brings me peace. We are so little, the world so big. Alberta
Alberta was stunning. Moving from the prairies to the mountains was such a drastic change, everything was exciting and new. The towns were much bigger than I expected, large older looking homes. More variety, especially when we approached the Badlands. The ground just dropped and create these incredible formations. Sitting on the edge of the cliff, surrounded by grass, staring at the beautiful scenery – it was one of my favourite moments. After setting up our tent we hiked around the site. You move from this incredible view of everything to being surrounded. The views were amazing, and walking as the sun was setting over the cliffs was unbelievable.…

Manitoba and Saskatchewan
We made it out of Ontario!! We traded the hills and trees for flat land and huge fields. The farmland was beautiful but the wind was insane. Our little car was being pushed, you could feel the friction. We made it in to Winnipeg for the night. Unfortunately our couch surfer had a miscommunication and we took up in a motel. It was nice to shower and sleep in a bed, and free tea and coffee in the morning was nice. The next morning was grey and rainy and really cold; Mumford and Sons was the perfect soundtrack. Ontario
It was absolutely wonderful, she could not have been more excited. That night was low key, drinks with her roommates, maybe a midnight trip to McDonalds. It was great to catch up and spend time with her. Her friends are friendly and accommodating, and the cat and dog were lovely. The next day we walked around the city, exploring Parliment Hill, seeing Champlain’s Point and enjoying our time together. Ottawa is stunning, the Parliment buildings are beautiful. The only downfall was the rain which forced us back to her home for a movie. That night was my first Casino experience. I lost five dollars on the penny machine and spent the…

West Coast

Posts will be a little spotty this week but I’ll try and update about the drive and the sights. While I’m really excited to see Vancouver, and everything between, I’m slightly nervous. It will be an amazing adventure, and hopefully Vancouver is rewarding. I’ve got some books, lots of comedy podcasts (So excited to introduce Stephen to Doug Loves Movies) and great company.
