This Fall Penguin released (or will be releasing, I could only find October as the release date) these beautiful hand sewn covers of three classic novels. They were designed and sewn by artist Jillian Tamaki, and are incredibly intricate.
The three books chosen were Jane Austen‘s ‘Emma,’ in celebration of its first stand alone edition, Frances Hodgson Burnett‘s ‘The Secret Garden,’ to celebrate its centennial, and Anna Sewell‘s ‘Black Beauty,’ to celebrate the new forward by Pulitzer Prize winner Jane Smiley.
While you cannot buy the actual hand-sewn covers, you can buy the sculpt-embossed covers which will maintain the texture of the stitches.
Tamaki took to her blog to announce her contribution to this project.
Penguin Classics! What a dream project. When I first did my Monster Quilt, I said I wouldn’t take commissions in embroidery… unless Penguin called me for a Penguin Classics cover. Sometimes you get what you wish for (times three).
