• Max Rafferty – ‘Lonely Town/Spill’ single

Max Rafferty, ex-Kooks bassist, has an incredible past in the music sphere and on November 22nd he made his return with the ‘Lonely Town/Spill’ single. This single included three tracks: ‘Lonely Town’, ‘Spill’ and ‘Go Down Easy’. He is a great writer and the songs have a solid grounding lyrically. ‘Lonely Town’ is an upbeat rock track that starts off with a bang. His voice fits perfectly with the rougher edge and then you hit the chorus. The song seems very jumbled and confused at this point. I feel like it is trying to be a much more intense song but doesn’t build up enough to reach it. ‘Spill’ had the…

  • Summer Travels

My parents came down from Ontario this week and we spent a few days driving up the coast of Cape Breton, NS. The Cabot Trail is one of the most beautiful landscapes I’ve seen and even though it was a lot of driving, it was worth every second. We also visited Louisbourg, which is the first fishing village in Nova Scotia. It was really interesting, as well as being gorgeous. If you are ever in this area I highly recommend visiting. I’ll post a few pictures on here and the rest you can view on my Flickr.

  • Listeners like covers to expose a new meaning or feeling they missed from the original.

For musicians covering their favourite songs or artists is a right of passage. Most covers allow musicians to indulge their favourite artists of the same style. This is fine for concerts but if you are going to record a cover try something new. Most listeners do not want to hear the same song done by different people, especially when the original is better. We listeners want something new and unexpected to come out of the song. To grasp a new meaning or feeling we were unable to get from the original. The first cover I heard that completely blew my socks off was Johnny Cash’s version of “Hurt” by Nine…

  • Victory Pill’s Jim Davies Interview

Jim Davies (Prodigy and Pitchshifter) took a break from his studio time in Essex to sit down and talk with Rock Pulse about his latest album with Victory Pill. Davies is very relaxed and jokes around with the questions, allowing for a more friendly conversation. Davies started playing guitar when he was sixteen joking that he started because he “was bad with the girls.” The real reason was that he “wanted to play an instrument and asked for the guitar. They [his teachers] tried to get me to play the violin, or clarinet.” Davies was set on the guitar and went home everyday to practice his skill.  His favourite artist…

  • Bayside – Killing Time

Tracklisting 1. Already Gone 2. Sick, Sick, Sick 3. Mona Lisa 4. It’s Not A Bad Little War 5. Sinking and Swimming On Long Island 6. Seeing Sound 7. The Wrong Way 8. On Love, On Life 9. The New Flesh 10. Killing Time Bayside have consistently made albums that address the emotions of its listeners while still allowing them to rock out to the fast paced music. Anthony Raneri‘s jazzy voice adds a great contrast to Nick Ghanbarian, Jack O’Shea and Chris Guglielmo’s harder instrumentals. While Killing Time is reminiscent of their earlier work it is more intricate and expressive. Bayside has been around for a long time and still has it’s listeners begging for…

  • WhiteMoor – WhiteMoor

WhiteMoor is the upcoming band from Derby, England whose commercial success has landed their first single ‘Three Words’ at number 88 on the download chart. WhiteMoor’s debut album, appropriately titled ‘WhiteMoor’, is an indie, electro pop infusion that demands you dance along. Out of the ashes of their three former bands Barrington, Benny, Luke and Tom have created an album that brings you to your feet. This infectious power pop allows you to forget everything for around forty minutes and lose yourself in the beat. The opening song ‘Three Words’ is by far their best. It has a powerful backbeat and strong vocals. It sets a good pace for the rest of the…

  • Ollie Taylor – Anni, Nobody Cares, These Legs of Stone

Ollie Taylor is a 23-year-old musician from London, England who currently performs with the band The October Game. Taylor records his solo music on the side and currently has three songs free to download on his Soundcloud page. Each song evokes a different feeling and shows off Taylors range vocally and musically. ‘Anni’ is a soft and sweet song. The shaker and the piano give the song a serene quality as his voice floats above. Although the song is only two minutes long it leaves you satisfied and wanting more. ‘Nobody Cares’ has a more Rolling Stones vibe with the repetitive guitar. The end was very interesting and I almost…

  • Peter and Kerry – Clothes, Friends, Photos

Tracklisting Clothes, Friends, Photos Half Empty Oh, No The Shadows Knees Crash And Burn ‘Clothes, Friends, Photos’ proves that all you need is creativity to produce a beautiful EP. Peter Lyons and Kerry Leatham recorded this EP in Lyons bedroom in only a few days and it is one of the better EPs I’ve heard this year. The song ‘Crash and Burn’ contains the lyric “every corner dip creek tells a story I’m comfortable with…” this line perfectly describes this EP. Every corner, dip, and creek of each song tells of something different. Every noise, lyric and pause tells a deeper story that keeps you involved in the songs and makes…

  • Column

It is about how artists have changed music. It includes The Beatles, The Marvelettes, Simon and Garfunkel and Bob Dylan. Click here to view it!
